Play & Creative Arts Therapy
Explained for Tweens and Teens
Hey! Who says Play Therapy is for little kids?!
If you feel that sometimes things can get out of control, and you have those feelings that crush you, sting, rip, slice, break and hurt you on the inside, then you may have just landed yourself a jackpot with Play Therapy!
With me you get to do whatever you want to do, and together, we can start figuring out how to make those feelings that are hurting you, feel better.
Hi! My name is Carolina and I’m a Play and Creative Arts Therapist!
Just in case you didn’t know, a Play Therapist (for short) is a qualified professional who understands that young people don’t really like to talk about their feelings, so we have learned to understand and speak the language of play and creativity just so we can help very important people like you feel better!
In Play Therapy we can spend time together every week doing only the things you want to do; and you always get to choose what that is. There will be no-one there asking you to talk, or telling you what you should or shouldn’t do, or giving their opinion on what you did or didn’t do.
Here in Play Therapy, you can choose to make comic strips, paint, listen to music, role-play an adventure, play football, or basketball, follow the rules or make up your own rules to the game. If you want to, you can also get your hands in the sand, water, clay, and all the messy things even though they can feel a bit silly and rather embarrassing at times. And in days when you feel you don’t want to do anything, then that’s ok too, we can just chill out together.
You will never have to tell me anything you don’t want to; instead, when we are together, you can show me how tough life can get with family, friends, school, clubs, gaming, social media, and everything else that goes on in this weird and wild world without you saying a word. And if you decide you want to talk about it, then that’s okay; I am here to listen too! And because your feelings are private to you, I pinkie-promise never to tell anyone about what we do, say, or play with in our playroom (unless, of course, it is to make sure you are kept safe when we are not together).
I will give you the heads-up though, I may ask you to teach me some stuff – I was born in the previous millennium you see… but I am curious, and I would love to learn from you what it’s like to be you. Afterall, together we may just be able to figure out a way to make life a bit easier on you.
When you decide to embark on this journey, we will be in it together, no matter what. So come and meet me; bring along your super-you and all your twisted, hurting, muddled feelings, and let your Innerventure begin!
See you soon!
