Play & Creative Arts Therapy

Explained for Children

You know those feelings that we have that sometimes feel really good, but other times they can feel really heavy, twisty or bubbly, and even hurt us on the inside?

In Play Therapy, we will play together to start figuring out how to make those feelings that are getting out of control and hurting us, feel better.

Hi! My name is Carolina and I’m a Play and Creative Arts Therapist!

Just in case you didn’t know, a Play Therapist (for short) is an adult who has gone to school to learn how to understand and speak the language of play and creativity just so we can help very important children like you feel better!

I know that sometimes when the adults get worried, they ask us to tell them how we feel; but sometimes telling the adults can be really difficult because even though we want to, we just don’t know how to; or sometimes… well, sometimes we just don’t want to in the first place.

In Play Therapy we don’t have to talk at all, we can just be together. Our playroom will have lots of things we can do and play with, and you always get to choose what you want to do every time you come.

You can make your own music, draw pictures, play games, build things, make the toys and the puppets tell a story; you can do some painting or play with sand, and water, and clay, and messy things, and have fun doing the things you really enjoy, even though they can feel a bit silly sometimes. And in days when you feel you don’t want to do anything, then that’s ok too, we can just not do anything together.

Here in Play Therapy, you will never have to do nor tell me anything you don’t want to, but if you decide you want to talk about how you feel, or what happened at school, with your friends, or at home, then that’s okay; I am here to listen too!

And because your feelings are private to you, I pinkie-promise never to tell anyone about what we do, say, or play with in our playroom (unless, of course, it is to make sure you are kept safe when we are not together).

It doesn’t matter how difficult you may be finding things in life at the minute. You can buckle up because together we can go on an Innerventure to discover a way that helps you feel better.

So if you are up for it, bring along your super-you and all your fuzzy, twisted, bangy, sticky, muddled feelings, and let your Innerventure begin!

See you soon!
